Rivers: PDP asks 27 lawmakers who defected to APC to vacate seats

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Rivers House of Assembly Speaker to declare vacant the seats of 27 PDP lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing division within the PDP.

The PDP, invoking constitutional provisions, claims the defected members have lost their seats. The party calls for fresh elections to fill the vacancies and warns against the defectors impersonating assembly members.

The Rivers assembly, divided into factions amid a political crisis, saw the Wike-backed faction announcing defection to the APC, a move welcomed by the APC in Rivers State.
