Security operatives foil kidnapping attempt of INEC officials in Imo

An attempt by alleged political thugs to abduct INEC officials and cart away election materials at a Registration Area Center in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area in Imo State, was foiled by security operatives.

According to eyewitnesses, the thugs arrived at the polling center in a bus and attempted to whisk away the INEC officials but were quickly repelled by the security personnel deployed to the area.

“The thugs quickly retreated into their bus and sped off on hearing the sound of the gun,” the eyewitness said.

An unarmed Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) operative at the scene said the thugs were planning to hijack the INEC officials and election materials but were unsuccessful due to the quick intervention of the security personnel.

There has been a heavy presence of security personnel on major roads in the state.
