Kano: 2 yahoo boys jailed for 3 years for $50 scam

A Kano State High Court has sentenced two internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Boys, to three years imprisonment each for defrauding an American citizen of $50.

The convicts, identified as Aminu Sani and Hassan Mohammed, were found guilty of scamming their victim under the pretence of being in a romantic relationship.

The court heard that the convicts met their victim on an online dating site and posed as wealthy businessmen from Nigeria. They promised to marry the victim and convinced her to send them money to help them with their business ventures.

However, after the victim sent them the money, the convicts cut off all communication with her. She then reported the matter to the police, who were able to track down the convicts and arrest them.

In his ruling, the judge said that the convicts had committed a serious crime and that their actions had caused the victim significant financial and emotional distress. He sentenced them to three years imprisonment each without the option of a fine.
